A famous cartoon cat would have been in heaven this week as a popular grocery store chain, in a dazzling display of culinary power, officially broke a Guinness World Record. LIDL Portugal has been recognized for creating the longest line of lasagne, with a staggering 1,215 individual portions stretched out in a single line.
The record-breaking event took place on Sunday, July 20, at the Lidl Belenenses store in Lisbon, as part of a festival celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary in Portugal. The event drew a large crowd of hungry onlookers who were treated to the sight of hundreds of lasagnes, all arranged meticulously to form a continuous line.
While lasagne is most famously associated with Italy, the dish is a beloved staple in Portugal. The record was set with Lidl’s own popular ready-made lasagne, which has earned a reputation for its quality. The company’s decision to use its own product for the record was both a celebration of its anniversary and a tribute to its customers.
After the official count was verified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, the lasagnes were immediately distributed to festival attendees. The remaining portions were donated to a local food charity, ensuring that no one was left hungry.
The successful record attempt not only added a new title to Portugal’s record books but also served as a unique and delicious way to bring the community together, all while showcasing a beloved grocery store staple on an unprecedented scale.
