A sweet-tempered Maine Coon cat from Mound, Minnesota, is now a global sensation, having officially claimed the Guinness World Records title for the longest tail on a domestic cat (living). Named Mr. Pugsley Addams, the feline’s magnificent tail was measured at a whopping 18.5 inches (46.99 cm), a length that has always commanded attention but is now officially a world record.
The record was verified on February 24, 2025, after months of deliberation. According to owner Amanda Cameron, Pugsley’s unique appendage was noticed from his very first vet visit. “The first time I took him to the vet, he walked in and said, ‘That is a REALLY long tail,'” Cameron recalled. The curiosity of her children, Finley and Josephine, led the family to research the current record holder, only to be shocked that their own cat’s tail was longer.
Pugsley’s impressive tail easily surpassed the previous record of 16.07 inches, held by another Maine Coon named Altair Cygnus Powers. A full-grown Maine Coon is known for its large size and dense fur, and Pugsley’s tail is a perfect example of the breed’s striking features. Despite his troublemaking reputation, he is a beloved member of the family, sharing his home with two sisters, Winnie and Duchess, and his brother, Gomez, all named after characters from The Addams Family.
While his lengthy tail sometimes gets in the way when he’s playing or lounging, it has now brought him international fame. Mr. Pugsley Addams is not only a local celebrity but a testament to how even the most unique feline features can land a pet in the history books.
