Kazakhstan Sets World Record with 5,000 in Traditional Dress by the Caspian Sea

In a vibrant celebration of culture and community, the city of Aktau has set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest gathering of people wearing traditional Kazakh clothing. On March 22, 2025, a staggering 5,000 people came together on the shores of the Caspian Sea to celebrate Nauryz, the Kazakh New Year, and etch their heritage into the history books.

The record-breaking event was a key highlight of the “Best Fest Nauryz” festival, organized under the leadership of Akim (Governor) Nurdaulet Kilybai of the Mangystau region. The gathering was a visual spectacle, with participants proudly showcasing the rich details of traditional Kazakh attire, from elaborate headdresses to embroidered robes. Guinness World Records officials were on hand to meticulously count the participants, who had registered in advance to ensure the record was officially verified.

The achievement holds special significance for Aktau, which was recently named the “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2025.” By setting this record, the city demonstrated its commitment to promoting its spiritual and historical heritage on a global stage. Akim Kilybai noted the importance of the historic moment, stating, “Today we have revealed to the world the deep history and rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, our national traditions.”

The successful record attempt was met with a roar of approval and solidified Kazakhstan’s place in the Guinness World Records. The event not only served as a celebration of the country’s national identity but also as a powerful testament to the unity and pride of its people.
