“Ganpati Bappa’s 11-Day Yatra on Mumbai’s First-Ever Open Double-Decker Bus”

In a historic first for the Ganeshotsav festival, Ganpati Bappa will embark on an 11-day journey across the city of Mumbai, bringing blessings directly to the doorsteps of devotees. The idol, named Mumbai Cha Sheth, is being transported on a specially designed open double-decker bus, an initiative that marks a significant innovation in how the festival is celebrated.

The unique procession is organized by Red Cherrys Entertainment under the leadership of Keyur Sheth. The initiative, named “Hijack India 2.0,” is a departure from the traditional stationary pandal model. This year, the festival’s organizers sought to make the darshan of Bappa more accessible to Mumbaikars who are unable to travel to a single, fixed location due to the city’s massive crowds and traffic.

The grand unveiling of the idol took place on August 27, 2025, with the bus scheduled to travel through various parts of the city. While the detailed route and schedule are expected to be announced shortly, the mobile darshan is intended to create a city-wide celebration and extend the festivities to more localities than ever before. This move has been widely appreciated as it brings the cultural and spiritual essence of the festival closer to the people.

Mumbai Cha Sheth has been a highlight of the Ganeshotsav calendar since its inception in 2015, known for its creative themes and attracting a host of celebrities. This year’s mobile format is a testament to the organizers’ commitment to blending traditional rituals with innovative ideas, ensuring the spirit of devotion remains strong in an ever-changing urban landscape.
