Colombian Dairy Brand Alpina Sets World Record with Largest Cheese Tasting Event

In a truly Gouda-and-glorious celebration, the Colombian dairy company Alpina Productos Alimenticios S.A.S BIC has earned a Guinness World Records title for the largest cheese tasting event, attracting over 1,000 participants. The event, held to commemorate the company’s 80th anniversary, turned a local celebration into a historic culinary milestone.

The record-breaking event took place on May 25, 2025, in the municipality of Sopó, Cundinamarca, the very town where Alpina was founded. A total of 1,185 people gathered, a number that not only surpassed the previous record of 1,000, but also showcased the brand’s enduring popularity and its deep connection with the local community.

Each participant was required to sample three distinct cheeses that symbolized the company’s rich history and tradition. The tasting included:

  • Gruyere cheese, representing Alpina’s Swiss origins.
  • Sopó cheese, a tribute to the town and a product launched for the company’s 70th anniversary.
  • Argovia cheese, a modern product that fuses European techniques with Colombia’s rich dairy culture.

Guinness World Records Adjudicator Natalia Ramirez was present at the event and ensured that all guidelines were met, from the number of participants to the quality and sanitary standards of the food.

“This event not only celebrates the art of cheese tasting, but it also highlights Alpina’s dedication to excellence in the dairy industry,” Ramirez said.

The record-setting feat brings global recognition to Alpina and the local dairy industry, proving that when a community comes together for a shared passion, the impossible becomes achievable. It was a day of celebration, a tribute to tradition, and a tasty new chapter in the history of Colombian cheese.
