Anaheim Sets World Record with Largest Game of Red Light/Green Light

A timeless schoolyard classic was given a monumental makeover as over a thousand people in Anaheim, California, came together to set a world record for the largest game of Red Light, Green Light. On May 21, 2025, at Yorba Park, a whopping 1,423 participants, mostly young students from the Anaheim Elementary School District, made history by breaking the record.

The record-breaking event, which was organized by CF Fitness in partnership with the Anaheim Elementary School District, aimed to promote physical activity and community engagement among students and their families. The massive game surpassed the previous record of 1,415 participants, set by students at the University of California, Irvine, in 2022.

Students arrived at the park by the bus-load, their excitement palpable as they lined up on the grassy field. Local firefighters, police officers, and city officials also joined in, creating a festive atmosphere and showing their support for the community. An official from Guinness World Records, Brittany Dunn, was on-site to meticulously count and verify the participants, ensuring every rule of the classic game was followed.

“We are all born dreamers—it’s up to us to turn those dreams into reality,” said James Howell, the founder and CEO of CF Fitness. The event was not just about the record, he added, but about bringing the community together and inspiring young people to stay active and dream big.

The successful record attempt proved that even the simplest of games can bring a community together for a fun-filled and memorable occasion, solidifying Anaheim’s place in the record books for a day that no one will soon forget.
