Teenage sprinting prodigy Isla Perry has propelled South Devon Athletic Club into the national spotlight with a record-breaking double performance at the prestigious English Schools Championships, held over the weekend.
Competing in the Under-15 Girls 300m, Perry didn’t just win — she smashed the championship record twice in two days, rewriting national history books and placing herself among the brightest young talents in British athletics.
Her winning time not only broke the championship record but also eclipsed a long-standing national record that had stood firm for seven years, once held by none other than Amber Anning, the current Indoor World Champion over 400m.
The feat now places Isla Perry at the top of an elite honours list that includes celebrated British sprinters like Dina Asher-Smith, an Olympic medallist and world champion.
“To break a record once is special, but to do it twice in the same weekend — that’s remarkable,” said a spokesperson from South Devon Athletic Club. “Isla’s work ethic and focus are extraordinary, and we’re incredibly proud.”
The English Schools Championships are widely regarded as a launchpad for future international stars, and Perry’s dominant performance has now marked her as one to watch on the path to elite athletics.
As she continues to develop under the guidance of her coaches and club, Isla Perry’s name is already being whispered as a potential future Olympian — and after this weekend, it’s easy to see why.
