Smt. Pratibha Satpathy Honoured with Padma Shri for Enriching Odia Literature

Renowned Odia poet and literary scholar Smt. Pratibha Satpathy has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri for her exceptional contribution to Literature and Education. The award recognizes her decades-long efforts to elevate Odia poetry and bring regional literature to a national platform.

Born on November 27, 1945, Smt. Satpathy has authored over 20 volumes of poetry and several critical essays, becoming a prominent voice in contemporary Odia literature. Her poetic works like Tanmaya Dhuli, Adha Adha Nakshyatra, Mahamegha, and Sabari have earned critical acclaim for their emotional depth, lyrical quality, and cultural resonance.

In 2001, she received the Sahitya Akademi Award for her poetry collection Tanmaya Dhuli. Over the years, she has been a recipient of multiple literary accolades including the Jhankar Award, Vishuba Award, and more recently, the Gangadhar National Poetry Award in 2025.

Beyond writing, Smt. Satpathy has played an active editorial role, serving as the editor of the literary magazines Istahaar and Udbhasa, platforms that have nurtured and promoted emerging Odia voices. She has also contributed to literary translation, fostering cultural exchange between Odia and English literature.
