Celebrated agricultural innovator Shri Sathyanarayana Beleri has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in the category of Others – Agriculture. Hailing from Kerala, Mr. Beleri’s pioneering work in sustainable farming has transformed rural practices and boosted food security across the state.
Shri Beleri has championed organic and permaculture practices, introducing multilayer cropping systems that combine traditional rice farming with intercrops like legumes and vegetables. This method has not only enhanced soil fertility but also tripled farmers’ incomes in several regions.
To ensure fair returns for small producers, Beleri has established farmers’ collectives, securing organic certification, value addition, and direct market access to urban centers. His efforts have helped over 2,000 farmer households transition from subsistence to sustainable agribusiness.
Embracing technology, he launched Kerala’s first agri-tech mobile platform, offering real-time advice on:
- Weather
- Pest control
- Market prices
This digital outreach has improved yields and reduced crop losses during monsoons and disease outbreaks.
Awarding Shri Beleri the Padma Shri recognizes his vision of climate-resilient, inclusive agriculture that uplifts communities and protects Kerala’s rich biodiversity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended him, saying:
“Sathyanarayana Beleri’s work demonstrates how innovation rooted in tradition can secure our future. His achievements are an inspiration to all agrarians.”
India celebrates Shri Sathyanarayana Beleri — a farmer, innovator, and architect of Kerala’s sustainable agriculture revolution.
