Shri Bhagabat Padhan from Odisha Honoured with Padma Shri for Contribution to Art

Celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of Odisha, the Government of India has conferred the prestigious Padma Shri on Shri Bhagabat Padhan for his exceptional contribution to the field of Art.

A master of traditional folk and tribal art forms, Shri Bhagabat Padhan has dedicated his life to preserving and promoting the indigenous artistic traditions of western Odisha. With a deep connection to his roots, he has been a torchbearer of Karma Nacha, Danda Nrutya, and other local performance arts that blend storytelling, music, and spirituality.

For decades, Shri Padhan has trained countless young artists, reviving interest in fading traditions and ensuring their continuity through community engagement and educational initiatives. His performances have not only captivated local audiences but have also been showcased on national and international stages.
