In a proud moment for Indian sports, Shri Harbinder Singh, a celebrated former hockey player from Delhi, has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India for his remarkable contribution to the field of Sports.
A member of India’s golden generation of field hockey, Shri Harbinder Singh was part of the Indian national team that brought home medals on the global stage during the 1960s and 70s. He was a key player in India’s bronze medal victories at the Tokyo Olympics (1964) and Mexico Olympics (1968) and later contributed as a coach and selector for the national team.
Renowned for his sharp attacking skills, agility, and game sense, Shri Harbinder played a vital role in reviving Indian dominance in hockey during a crucial era. After his playing career, he continued to serve Indian sports as an administrator, mentor, and promoter of youth talent through coaching programs and hockey academies.
Upon receiving the honour, Shri Singh said, “This award is a recognition of our generation’s commitment to Indian hockey. I share it with my teammates, coaches, and every young player dreaming of glory.”
