In a proud moment for Indian sports, legendary footballer Shri Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, popularly known as I.M. Vijayan, has been awarded the Padma Shri 2025 in the field of Sports. A former captain of the Indian national team and an icon in Indian football, Vijayan’s journey from humble beginnings in Kerala to becoming a national hero is both inspirational and historic.
Born in Thrissur, Vijayan rose through sheer talent and determination. He began his career by selling soda bottles outside football stadiums and went on to become one of India’s greatest strikers, earning widespread acclaim during the 1990s and early 2000s.
