“Norway Makes a Splash with Europe’s First Underwater Restaurant”

Europe has officially entered the depths of fine dining with the grand opening of “Under”, the continent’s first underwater restaurant, located at the southernmost point of Norway in Lindesnes. Partially submerged 5.5 meters below the surface of the North Sea, the architectural marvel offers patrons a stunning panoramic view of marine life — all while enjoying world-class cuisine.

Designed by award-winning Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, the structure resembles a concrete monolith half-sunken into the sea. With thick walls and a massive acrylic window stretching across the dining area, the restaurant accommodates up to 40 guests per night, blending marine observation with culinary artistry.

Head Chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard leads the kitchen, focusing on hyper-local, sustainably sourced ingredients — including freshly caught seafood and coastal flora — making each meal a reflection of the surrounding ecosystem.

Beyond a unique dining experience, “Under” doubles as a marine research center, where scientists study marine biology and monitor biodiversity.

As a fusion of design, science, and sustainability, “Under” is already being hailed as a must-visit destination for travelers, foodies, and marine enthusiasts alike.
