Ms. Nirmal Rishi from Punjab Conferred Padma Shri for Her Iconic Contribution to Indian Art and Cinema

Celebrating a remarkable journey that has left an indelible mark on Indian theatre and cinema, the Government of India has conferred the prestigious Padma Shri on Ms. Nirmal Rishi from Punjab for her outstanding contribution to the field of Art.

A legendary actress known for her powerful screen presence and memorable roles, Ms. Nirmal Rishi has been a pillar of Punjabi cinema and theatre for over four decades. With a career spanning more than 50 films and numerous stage performances, she is cherished for her versatile acting, commanding dialogue delivery, and portrayals of strong, relatable characters.

Best known for her iconic role as “Gulabo Maasi” in Long Da Lishkara, Ms. Rishi has brought authenticity and cultural depth to Punjabi storytelling. Beyond her on-screen talent, she has been a mentor to aspiring actors and a passionate advocate for promoting regional arts and Punjabi language.

Speaking on receiving the honour, Ms. Rishi said, “This award belongs to the people of Punjab, to the stage, to every script I’ve brought to life. I am deeply humbled.”
