In a pioneering move, Indore has become the first city in India to launch a Digital House Address System, revolutionizing the way urban addresses are mapped, accessed, and utilized. This ambitious initiative aims to streamline everything from public service delivery and emergency response to e-commerce logistics and citizen grievance redressal.
Launched by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the project involves assigning each property a unique digital address code linked to precise geolocation data. These digital addresses will be QR-coded and integrated into municipal records, postal systems, and navigation platforms.
- Faster Deliveries: With exact geotagged addresses, delivery services can now reach homes faster and more accurately, reducing failed attempts.
- Efficient Emergency Response: Ambulances, fire brigades, and police can quickly locate addresses during critical situations.
- Simplified Grievance Reporting: Citizens can report civic issues like garbage, water leaks, or broken infrastructure using their digital address—speeding up resolution.
- Smart Governance: Integration with property tax, utility bills, and urban planning systems makes governance more data-driven and efficient.
“This is a bold step towards building a truly smart and responsive city,” said Municipal Commissioner Harshika Singh. “Indore continues to lead not just in cleanliness but also in innovation.”
The pilot phase covers 1/9th of the city, with plans to expand citywide by early 2026. As other urban bodies watch closely, Indore’s digital address model could soon become the blueprint for smart city development across India.
