In a groundbreaking move set to revolutionize India’s banking infrastructure, fintech startup Slice has launched India’s first-ever UPI-only ATM, enabling users to withdraw or deposit cash simply by scanning a QR code—no physical card required.
The digital-first innovation allows customers to use any UPI-enabled app—such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or BHIM—to access ATM services. The pilot ATM has been launched in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is being hailed as a “game-changing infra shift” in the way Indians interact with cash.
- Visit a Slice UPI ATM
- Select “Withdraw” or “Deposit” on the machine
- A QR code appears on the screen
- Scan the code using any UPI app
- Approve the transaction
- Cash is dispensed or deposited instantly
Unlike traditional ATMs, this UPI ATM eliminates the need for debit cards, PINs, or banking apps from specific providers. The system is bank-agnostic, meaning anyone with a UPI-linked bank account can use it.
“This launch is a major leap toward democratizing access to financial services,” said Rajan Bajaj, founder and CEO of Slice.
“We’re building infrastructure for a future where cash and digital work seamlessly together.”
India leads the world in UPI transactions, processing over 10 billion per month. Slice’s UPI ATM complements the country’s move toward a cardless, contactless, and more inclusive banking experience—especially for rural and semi-urban users who rely on cash but may not have cards.
With the launch of this UPI-based ATM, India is once again setting global benchmarks in fintech innovation, proving that secure, cardless cash access is no longer a vision—it’s a reality.
