In a gesture that celebrates global cultural exchange and academic excellence, the Government of India has conferred the Padma Shri on Shri Fred Negrit of France for his outstanding contributions to Literature and Education.
A scholar, educator, and cultural bridge-builder, Fred Negrit has dedicated his career to promoting Indian literature, philosophy, and educational traditions in the Francophone world. His deep engagement with Indian texts, languages, and educational models has enriched Indo-French academic collaboration and enhanced global understanding of India’s intellectual heritage.
Negrit is especially recognized for his pioneering translations of classical Indian works into French and for introducing Indian literary thought to students and readers across Europe. As a professor, he has inspired generations of students to explore the depth and diversity of Indian knowledge systems.
“India’s literary soul touched mine early in life. This honour is a beautiful reminder of the bond between our cultures,” Negrit said upon receiving the news of the award.
Indian cultural institutions and literary figures have applauded the recognition, calling it a “tribute to the power of literature to unite continents and minds.”
The Padma Shri awarded to Shri Fred Negrit reaffirms India’s appreciation for those who carry its cultural legacy far beyond its borders, strengthening the ties between nations through the universal language of knowledge.
