In a landmark achievement for India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, Autocar India, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz India, has earned a Guinness World Records title for achieving the Greatest Temperature Change by an Electric Production Car.
This prestigious recognition was awarded after a record-setting journey that demonstrated the durability, efficiency, and adaptability of modern electric vehicles in India’s diverse and extreme weather conditions. The record-setting vehicle — a Mercedes-Benz EQ series EV — successfully operated through a staggering range of temperatures, showcasing the real-world capability of electric mobility in challenging Indian terrains.
The test, meticulously monitored and validated by Guinness World Records officials, covered a route that spanned scorching plains, humid coastal regions, and high-altitude chill zones, with the temperature shift exceeding all previous benchmarks for an electric production car.
“This world record is more than just a milestone — it’s a bold statement that electric vehicles are ready for India’s unique and demanding environments,” said a spokesperson from Autocar India.
“It demonstrates the resilience of our engineering and the potential of electric mobility in even the most challenging conditions,” added a representative from Mercedes-Benz India.
The feat not only underscores the growing confidence in India’s EV infrastructure and vehicle capabilities but also serves as a symbolic leap toward sustainable transportation and innovation in the automotive sector.
Industry experts and environmentalists have lauded the achievement as a crucial moment in building consumer trust in EVs — proving they’re not only eco-friendly but also reliable and high-performing across India’s diverse climates.
