Renowned Kannada film actor Shri Anant Nag has been conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to Indian cinema and the arts. With a career spanning over five decades and more than 300 films to his credit, Anant Nag is widely regarded as one of the finest actors in the country, especially in the Kannada film industry.
Born in 1948 in Shirali, Karnataka, Anant Nag began his career in theatre before transitioning to the big screen. He became a household name through his powerful performances in parallel cinema, mainstream Kannada films, and iconic roles in Hindi films and television, including the beloved Malgudi Days series.
He played pivotal roles in socially conscious films such as Ankur, Nishant, Bhumika, and Kalyug, directed by Shyam Benegal, while also delivering unforgettable performances in Kannada classics like Bayalu Daari, Naa Ninna Mareyalare, Chandanada Gombe, and Ganeshana Maduve. More recently, he won acclaim for his role in the blockbuster KGF series.
