World’s Smallest Theatre, Once a Public Toilet, Up for Sale in Worcestershire

One of the quirkiest performance venues in the world — a theatre once listed in the Guinness World Records — is looking for a new owner.

The Edith Walk Theatre, affectionately known as the Theatre of Small Convenience, has been put up for sale by the local council in Great Malvern. Housed in a converted Victorian public toilet, the pint-sized playhouse has just 12 seats, earning it the title of the world’s smallest commercial theatre in 2002.

The Malvern Hills District Council hopes to find a passionate buyer who can restore the space and revive its cultural charm, saying the theatre “deserves to be brought back to life.”

Once a hub for miniature performances, puppetry, and one-person shows, the unique venue has long been a favourite with locals and tourists alike for its creativity and character.

“Theatre doesn’t get more intimate than this,” said one local resident. “It may be tiny in size, but it holds a big place in Malvern’s heart.”

The council is inviting expressions of interest from individuals or organisations keen to preserve the theatre’s legacy and support the local arts scene.
