In a nostalgic nod to cycling history, 68-year-old Brian Cobbold from King’s Lynn pedalled his way into the record books on Sunday, joining 140 penny farthing riders in a Guinness World Record-breaking event.
Dressed impeccably in traditional tweed attire, Cobbold was one of many enthusiasts who participated in the large-scale gathering that smashed several world records. The event, which drew cycling fans from across the country, also featured a special appearance by broadcaster Jeremy Vine.
Cobbold, a retired police officer who rediscovered his love for cycling five years ago, said taking up the penny farthing was an unexpected joy in retirement. “It wasn’t something to be missed,” he said of the record-setting day.
The spectacle not only celebrated vintage cycling but also showcased the growing popularity of unique endurance challenges and historic sportsmanship.
