Teen with Down’s Syndrome Makes History as Youngest in His Category to Complete Marathon

Lloyd Martin, a 19-year-old runner with Down’s syndrome, has made history by becoming the youngest person in his learning disability category to complete a full marathon — finishing the London Marathon alongside his mother and guide, Ceri Hooper.

The inspiring achievement was officially recognised by Guinness World Records, who created a special challenge category for Lloyd and presented him with a certificate at the finish line.

“For Lloyd, this was about achieving his dream,” said his mother, 54-year-old Ceri. “It shows that with determination and support, anything is possible.”

The duo, originally from Cardiff, trained together for months, and their finish was met with cheers and emotion from the crowd, volunteers, and fellow runners.

Lloyd’s accomplishment is being celebrated as a breakthrough moment for inclusion and representation in sport, reminding the world that limits can be pushed — and dreams fulfilled — with passion, perseverance, and belief.
