In a spectacular celebration of Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage, Tarnetar Village, in collaboration with the District Administration of Surendranagar and under the leadership of Mr. Udit Agrawal, I.A.S, achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest umbrella dance, featuring 1,996 participants, on 6 September 2016.
The record-breaking performance was the centerpiece of the Tarnetar Lok Mela (People’s Fair)—a traditional folk festival renowned for its colorful rituals, music, and dance. The participants, dressed in vibrant attire, performed the coordinated umbrella dance with handmade umbrellas, all crafted by the skilled citizens of Tarnetar Village.
This achievement not only showcased the unity and creativity of the local community but also brought international recognition to one of Gujarat’s most iconic festivals. The event served as a proud moment for the region, reinforcing the importance of preserving India’s folk traditions while celebrating the collective spirit of its people.
