Stoke-on-Trent Gardener Sets Second Guinness World Record with Heaviest Runner Bean

Derek Hulme, a passionate gardener from Sneyd Green in Stoke-on-Trent, has cultivated his way into the record books once again—this time for growing the world’s heaviest runner bean.

Weighing 196 grams (6.9oz)—roughly the weight of a cup of sugar—the impressive bean was officially measured at the Canna UK National Giant Vegetable Championships in Malvern this past September. The record has since been confirmed by Guinness World Records.

This achievement marks Mr Hulme’s second world record, having previously grown the world’s longest leek.

Speaking about his latest accolade, Hulme said, “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the hard work in the garden pay off on a global stage.”

With two remarkable titles to his name, Derek Hulme continues to inspire gardeners with his green thumb and giant ambitions.
