Thousands of residents in Stoke-on-Trent are signing up to participate in a monumental attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest cream tea party. This ambitious event is being organized as a highlight of the city’s 100th-anniversary celebrations.
Organizers are optimistic about “making history” if their collective efforts across multiple venues on July 8th prove successful. The widespread participation reflects the community’s enthusiasm for their centenary and a desire to come together in a unique way.
Nicky Twemlow, Director of Communities for YMCA North Staffordshire, one of the participating organizations, emphasized the stringent requirements set forth by Guinness World Records for such an attempt. “You’ve got to eat all your scone and your cream and your jam, or you’re disqualified,” she stated, highlighting the strict rules. “And you can only have tea.”
The meticulous planning and adherence to these criteria will be crucial for the city to officially claim the record. The event promises to be a memorable occasion, bringing together thousands of people to share a traditional cream tea, all while aiming for a place in the record books.
