St David’s Day Celebrations See Steam Train Pulling and Typing Records Smashed in Wales

St David’s Day celebrations in Wales took an extraordinary turn as several Guinness World Records were shattered in honour of the national day, with feats ranging from steam train pulling to lightning-fast typing.

Among the standout achievements were Sue Taylor-Franklin and Sam Taylor, a determined couple from Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, who set a new female world record for the fastest time to pull a narrow-gauge steam train 20 metres.

The pair, battling cold winds and slippery ground, completed the impressive challenge in just 40.53 seconds on their second attempt, earning their place in the record books.

“We’re so very proud of our achievement, but it was a cold day out,” shared Sue, 56, beaming with pride after their triumph.

The event also featured quirky records such as typing Wales’ longest place name – Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch – using one finger, delighting the crowd and celebrating the country’s rich heritage with a playful twist.

The spirited display of strength, skill, and Welsh pride made this St David’s Day a truly unforgettable one.
