In a monumental achievement for the Arabic language and cultural scholarship, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has received a Guinness World Record certificate for overseeing the world’s largest and most extensive historical linguistic project — the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language.
The recognition was officially awarded on Wednesday in Sharjah, where Dr Sheikh Sultan, also the Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy, was presented with the certificate by representatives from Guinness World Records.
The landmark project comprises 127 meticulously researched volumes, making it the largest historical dictionary ever compiled in any language. It documents the evolution, usage, and context of Arabic words across 17 centuries, making it a scholarly masterpiece of unmatched scale.
“This dictionary is not just a reference, it is a cultural and historical preservation of our language, heritage, and civilization,” His Highness said during the event.
