Rally legend Sebastien Loeb is set to return to familiar territory this week as he aims to strengthen his lead in the World Rally-Raid Championship (WRRC) during the Sonora Rally in Mexico. The Frenchman, representing Bahrain Raid Xtreme (BRX) alongside co-driver Fabian Lurquin, currently holds a 16-point lead over rival Nasser Al Attiyah heading into the third round of the season.
The action begins with a Prologue in Hermosillo on Sunday, marking the start of a pivotal rally in the 2024 WRRC calendar.
Loeb’s form has been nothing short of dominant, with nine stage victories from the Dakar Rally and Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge — the first two rounds of the championship. He will now look to capitalize on positive memories in Mexico, where he previously notched six WRC victories en route to his historic nine World Rally Championship titles.
“We’re excited to be back in Mexico. It’s a place with great rallying heritage and fantastic terrain,” said Loeb. “This season has started strong for us, and we aim to build on that momentum.”
The Sonora Rally promises rugged stages and technical challenges as the world’s best off-road racers battle for supremacy. With the championship still wide open, all eyes will be on Loeb as he seeks to extend his commanding lead.
