Ramayan University in Ayodhya Gets Government’s Green Signal

In a landmark decision aimed at promoting India’s ancient heritage and values, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has given its official approval for the establishment of Ramayan Vishwavidyalaya (Ramayan University) in the holy city of Ayodhya. The proposed university will be dedicated to the in-depth study, research, and global dissemination of the Ramayan and related Indian scriptures, becoming the first of its kind in the world.

Planned as a centre of excellence in Indian philosophy, literature, history, and culture, Ramayan University will offer courses on the Ramayan, Valmiki and Tulsidas traditions, Sanskrit literature, Dharma Shastra, and comparative mythology. It will also house a digital archive, a research wing, and international exchange programs to bring scholars from around the world to Ayodhya.

“This university will not only be a tribute to Lord Ram, but also a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern learning,” said a senior official from the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Department.

  • Location: Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh
  • Name: Ramayan Vishwavidyalaya
  • Focus Areas: Ramayan studies, Sanskrit, Indian philosophy, ancient history, comparative religion
  • Facilities: Digital library, research centres, auditorium for lectures, traditional gurukul-style learning spaces
  • Affiliation: To be governed under the state higher education framework, with UGC recognition

The move is seen as part of a larger initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government to transform Ayodhya into a global cultural, spiritual, and educational hub. Following the construction of the grand Ram Mandir and increased tourism to the region, this university is expected to draw scholars, spiritual seekers, and cultural researchers from across India and abroad.

Historians, educators, and spiritual leaders have welcomed the government’s approval, calling it a “visionary step” in reviving India’s civilizational narrative.

“This is not just a university — it’s a movement to restore India’s storytelling tradition and the values enshrined in the Ramayan,” said Dr. Neelima Tripathi, a professor of Indian philosophy.

With the green signal for Ramayan Vishwavidyalaya, Ayodhya is set to take a major stride toward becoming a beacon of India’s spiritual wisdom and intellectual legacy. The university promises to offer generations of students the opportunity to learn not just about Lord Ram, but about the timeless ideals of righteousness, dharma, and cultural unity.
