Pumpkin-Growing Brothers Aim for World Record at UK Giant Veg Championship

After five decades of dedication, brothers Ian and Stuart Paton are edging ever closer to breaking the world record for the largest pumpkin — and this September, they hope their years of toil will finally bear fruit.

The brothers, seasoned horticulturists, are among the many competitors preparing for the CANNA UK National Giant Vegetables Championship at the Malvern Autumn Show, scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 September in Worcestershire.

Ian Paton, 63, shared his excitement: “We’re really close. This might be the year we finally do it.”

The current world record stands at a staggering 1,247kg (2,749lb), held by a pumpkin affectionately nicknamed Michael Jordan. The Paton brothers have come close in previous years and are regarded as legends in the competitive giant vegetable growing community.

With hopes high and gourds growing fast, the brothers remain determined to squash the competition and bring the world title home to the UK.
