In a spectacular celebration of vintage cycling, 140 Penny Farthing enthusiasts gathered in East London on Sunday and successfully shattered 12 Guinness World Records in a single day.
Among the record-breaking feats was the largest upright stack of Penny Farthing riders, surpassing the previous benchmark of 131. All participants in the stack had to maintain their position for over three minutes, before embarking on an impressive ride from the Herne Hill Velodrome to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Velodrome.
The historic gathering featured high-profile participants, including presenter Jeremy Vine, who joined the effort to promote cycling heritage and endurance.
According to a Guinness World Records spokesperson, the event also set a new record for the largest number of Penny Farthing racers inside a velodrome, alongside other individual and group achievements.
The event not only showcased incredible coordination and balance but also reignited enthusiasm for the classic two-wheeler in the modern age. Organisers hope the success inspires more unique cycling events around the world.
