Oyo Cyclist Ebaide Joy Targets Guinness World Record with Pan-African Journey

The Oyo State Government is set to make a historic entry into the Guinness Book of Records by officially backing an ambitious world record attempt by Ibadan-based cyclist, Ebaide Joy. This was disclosed on Monday by the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Toyin Balogun.

Ebaide Joy is slated to embark on a groundbreaking motorcycle journey across 12 African countries in July. Her mission is not only to challenge the Guinness World Record for the longest solo ride by a female biker, currently set at 30,000 kilometers, but also to serve a profound humanitarian purpose.

According to Commissioner Balogun, the initiative will provide life-changing vocational training for 18 orphaned girls. These girls share a similar background with Joy, having grown up in orphanage institutions in Nigeria. The Commissioner emphasized that this dual-purpose endeavor highlights the state’s commitment to both extraordinary achievement and social impact.

In a statement released on Monday, the Commissioner confirmed that the feat has received official approval from Guinness World Records and has the full support of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. The Oyo State Government’s backing signifies a significant step in empowering female adventurers and supporting vulnerable youth, as Ebaide Joy prepares to traverse the African continent in pursuit of a new world record and a brighter future for young girls.
