Norfolk Golfer Quits Business to Break World Record in Memory of Late Mother

In a heartfelt journey fueled by passion and purpose, Josh Simpson, a 27-year-old golf enthusiast from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, has given up his business and embarked on a record-breaking mission to play the most golf courses in a single year — all in memory of his late mother.

Simpson is aiming to surpass the current world record of 580 golf courses played in a year, held by American golfer Patrick Koenig. Living out of a campervan, Josh is traveling across the UK and beyond, playing course after course, rain or shine.

His challenge is not just personal — it’s also deeply emotional. Following the sudden passing of his mother after a cancer diagnosis, Josh decided to pursue a dream he had long shelved, turning grief into a tribute.

“Mum never got the opportunity to retire and that put everything into perspective,” he told BBC Radio Norfolk. “This journey is in her memory, and we’re also raising funds for two incredible charities that supported us.”

Josh’s epic golfing mission has captured hearts across the golfing community and beyond. As he travels from course to course, he’s also working to raise awareness and funds for two cancer-related charities, ensuring that each swing of the club contributes to a greater cause.
