Ugen Lopsang Sherpa of Namchi, Sikkim, has made a remarkable contribution to linguistic diversity by compiling and publishing the ‘New Light Multilingual Dictionary Prajna’, featuring five languages — English, Sherpa, Bhutia, Nepali, and Tibetan.
The dictionary was officially inaugurated and released on August 21, 2013, by the His Excellency Governor and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim at a ceremony in Gangtok.
This pioneering work has set a new record for its comprehensive multilingual scope, serving as a valuable resource for scholars, students, and speakers of these languages, and promoting cultural preservation and communication across the region.
