Mizoram Becomes India’s First Fully Literate State, Chief Minister Lalduhoma Announces

In a historic milestone for education in India, Mizoram has been declared the country’s first fully literate state. Chief Minister Lalduhoma made the landmark announcement on Tuesday during a celebratory event at Mizoram University, attended by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted the collective efforts of teachers, community leaders, and citizens that led to this achievement. “As we celebrate this achievement, we also renew our commitment to sustaining literacy through continuous education, digital access, and vocational skill training,” the CM’s Office quoted him as saying in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary lauded Mizoram’s exemplary performance, calling it a beacon of hope for other states striving to improve their literacy levels. “Mizoram’s achievement is a testament to what is possible when government, educators, and communities come together with a shared vision,” he said.

Mizoram’s journey to full literacy has been driven by grassroots efforts, dedicated educators, and innovative community outreach programs that targeted every demographic, from young children to adults. The state’s focus on mother-tongue education, digital literacy initiatives, and vocational training has played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.

Experts believe that Mizoram’s achievement will inspire other Indian states to redouble their efforts in promoting literacy and lifelong learning. The government also plans to build on this success with programs that integrate digital education, skill development, and inclusive learning opportunities.
