Haryana proudly houses two landmark institutions that preserve and celebrate India’s transport heritage — the Rewari Railway Heritage Museum and the Heritage Transport Museum in Taoru.
The Rewari Railway Heritage Museum, located in Rewari district, holds the distinction of being Haryana’s first transport-related museum, originally established in December 2002. Housed in a restored 1893 steam locomotive shed, the museum showcases a rare collection of steam engines, railway memorabilia, and working models that attract rail enthusiasts and tourists alike.
Meanwhile, in December 2013, the Heritage Transport Museum opened its doors in Taoru, Nuh district, and made history as India’s first comprehensive transport museum. Spread over 90,000 square feet, the museum offers an immersive journey through the evolution of transport in India — from vintage cars and aircraft to bullock carts, bicycles, and toys. It has become a must-visit destination for both history buffs and automobile aficionados.
Together, these two museums mark Haryana’s significant contribution to preserving India’s rich transport history, blending nostalgia with education, and serving as vibrant cultural landmarks in the state.
