Giant Onion Grown in Guernsey Set to Smash World Record

A gardener from Guernsey has cultivated an onion of truly colossal proportions, weighing in at an astonishing nearly 9 kilograms, and is now poised to claim a new world record.

The eye-watering sized vegetable, grown by Gareth Griffin, was the star attraction at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show on Friday, drawing gasps of amazement from attendees.

Tipping the scales at a whopping 8.97kg (19.7lb), Griffin’s immense onion significantly outweighs the current world record holder, which registered 8.4kg (18.68lb).

Show organizers have confirmed that the onion’s status as the world’s largest is now subject to official verification by Guinness World Records. If confirmed, Griffin’s remarkable green thumb will earn him a coveted spot in the record books, showcasing an incredible feat of horticulture.
