Anghus Weightman, a funeral director from Godalming, Surrey, is set to turn heads at this year’s London Marathon as he attempts to become the fastest funeral director in full uniform to complete the race.
In his bid for a Guinness World Record, Weightman will take on the gruelling 26.2-mile (42km) course dressed in traditional funeral attire — including a full suit and tie, frock coat, and a top hat.
While the challenge is physically demanding, the 42-year-old hopes it will also spark important conversations. “Death is very final, but it shouldn’t be hidden away,” he said. “I want to show people it’s okay to talk about it — even in unexpected places like a marathon.”
Weightman has submitted his attempt to Guinness World Records and awaits official confirmation following Sunday’s race. His effort not only merges tradition with endurance but also aims to raise awareness and open dialogue around one of life’s most difficult topics.
