A determined team of 12 rowers — including several doctors from Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey — is gearing up to attempt a world record in an extraordinary show of endurance and community spirit.
Beginning on Monday at Paddington Station, the team plans to row an astonishing 1,000,000 metres non-stop on two rowing machines in under 62 hours, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record.
Beyond the challenge, their mission is deeply personal. The row is dedicated to raising £169,000 for a Hampshire-based charity that provides exercise therapy for children with long-term health conditions.
Team leader Dr. Gihan Ganesh, an anaesthetist whose daughter was treated for a rare tumour at just one year old, described the effort as “a way to give back” to the community and to support children facing medical challenges.
“This challenge is as much about raising awareness and funds as it is about the physical feat itself,” Dr. Ganesh said. “We hope our efforts inspire others to get involved and make a difference.”
The event promises to draw crowds of commuters and well-wishers, uniting the community around a cause that is close to the hearts of the rowers and their families.
