Adam Lopez, a 37-year-old forklift truck driver, has made a splash in the record books by breaking the world record for the fastest mile run in a swimming pool.
Lopez completed 63 lengths of the 25-metre pool at Nuffield Health in Norwich on Tuesday, finishing the aquatic challenge in an impressive 35 minutes and 24 seconds — a full four and a half minutes faster than the previous record.
The record-breaking attempt wasn’t just about speed. Lopez undertook the challenge to raise funds for a five-year-old girl battling spinal muscular atrophy, a rare and life-limiting condition.
“I wanted to do something tough and different to help make a difference,” said Lopez, who trained for months to tackle the physically demanding feat of running against the resistance of water.
The remarkable effort is now being submitted to Guinness World Records for official verification, while Lopez’s story continues to inspire others to combine athletic goals with powerful causes.
