Dubai Inmates Create World’s Largest Cardboard Sculpture Inside Al Aweer Central Jail

Within the fortified walls of Dubai Central Jail in Al Aweer, a remarkable story of rehabilitation and creativity is unfolding. Inmates have come together to build what is expected to become the world’s largest cardboard sculpture, a massive structure crafted from 35,000 cardboard boxes.

The ambitious creation, modeled after the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, is now vying for a spot in the Guinness World Records as part of a prison initiative aimed at providing inmates with practical skills and meaningful engagement during their sentences.

The project is overseen by the Department of Education and Training within the facility, and was unveiled during an exclusive visit arranged by Gulf News. Officials shared that the sculpture not only represents artistic expression but also symbolizes hope, transformation, and the power of second chances.

“This initiative gives the inmates an opportunity to develop craftsmanship and teamwork, while instilling a sense of achievement that will help them reintegrate into society,” a spokesperson from the facility said.

As the sculpture nears official record verification, it stands as a testament to creativity behind bars and Dubai’s progressive approach to correctional education and rehabilitation.
