Double Amputee Veteran from Kent Honoured with World Record for Everest Ascent

Hari Budha Magar, a former British Army Gurkha from Kent, has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the first double above-the-knee amputee to scale Mount Everest.

Magar, who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan, completed the historic climb to the world’s highest peak in May 2023, defying physical and mental odds to inspire millions around the globe.

This week, he was awarded the official Guinness World Record certificate, marking a significant milestone in mountaineering history. Speaking about the honour, Magar said, “It’s a privilege to receive this recognition. I look forward to hanging the historic certificate somewhere in my home, where it can remind others that nothing is impossible.”

His achievement has been widely celebrated as a symbol of resilience, determination, and the strength of the human spirit.
