Cyclist Scott Mitchell has officially entered the record books after completing a week-long cycling journey across 43 counties in England, raising awareness for muscle-wasting conditions.
Guinness World Records has now confirmed the feat — achieved in June 2023 — as a new world record for the most UK counties cycled through in seven days.
The inspiring ride was more than just a physical test. For Mitchell, it was deeply personal. He undertook the challenge in support of his son Alex, who lives with Becker muscular dystrophy, a rare and progressive genetic disorder.
“Every mile was for Alex,” said Mitchell. “This record is just the beginning — I’ll keep taking on challenges to spread awareness and support others going through the same.”
The journey took him through 43 of England’s 48 ceremonial counties, highlighting the resilience of families living with muscular dystrophy and uniting communities along the way.
Mitchell’s determination and dedication have not only set a record but also inspired many to keep pedaling forward in the face of adversity.
