A dedicated cricketer from Needham Market, Andy Northcote, believes he has bowled his way into the record books after completing a staggering 50 hours and 15 minutes of continuous batting. His monumental effort was undertaken not just for personal glory, but to raise crucial awareness and funds for mental health.
It is thought that the 40-year-old Northcote has successfully claimed the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cricket net session by a male. This extraordinary feat surpasses the previous record of 50 hours, four minutes, and 51 seconds, which was held by Virag Mare from India.
Guinness World Records has confirmed they will now review the extensive evidence of his attempt before officially confirming the new record.
Throughout his grueling challenge, Mr. Northcote successfully raised an impressive £6,000 for Suffolk Mind, a charity dedicated to supporting mental well-being.
“This challenge has been extremely tiring but the support I’ve received through volunteer bowlers, donations and sponsorships, has been overwhelming,” said a grateful Northcote. He humorously added that he was “force fed” to maintain his energy levels, a strategy that “got him through the dark times and into a nice, happy space.” His determination and endurance highlight a powerful message about perseverance and the importance of mental health support.
