Defying age and injury, 73-year-old Chris Terrill from Wilmington, East Sussex, has set a new Guinness World Record by completing the Brighton Marathon on crutches, becoming an extraordinary symbol of resilience and determination.
A seasoned marathoner with over 50 global races under his belt, Terrill faced a major setback after sustaining a hip injury while playing cricket last year, eventually requiring a hip replacement. But instead of withdrawing from the Brighton Marathon, for which he was already registered, he made the remarkable decision to take part — on crutches.
Against all odds, he completed the 26.2-mile course in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds, surpassing the previous world record by more than 13 minutes.
“I just didn’t want to miss it,” said Terrill. “I had no idea I’d broken a record — I’m absolutely amazed!”
His incredible feat has captured hearts and headlines, showing the world that passion, persistence, and purpose can overcome even the most difficult physical challenges.
