“Cheltenham Man Sets World Record for Epic Wheelchair Journey Across UK”

In a remarkable display of determination and technological innovation, Adam Stanton-Wharmby, a 38-year-old from Cheltenham living with cerebral palsy, has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats in an electric wheelchair.

Stanton-Wharmby completed the iconic 874-mile (1,406km) route across Great Britain in an astonishing 22 days, six hours, and 16 minutes. His groundbreaking achievement was significantly bolstered by a specialized upgrade to his electric wheelchair, meticulously carried out by engineers from the Mercedes Formula One team.

The epic journey took place in April, and after a period of anticipation, Mr. Stanton-Wharmby received official confirmation from the Guinness World Records team last week. “I’m the happiest now than I have ever been,” he shared, expressing profound relief at the validation of his monumental effort. “I feel a relief that I’ve got the world record.”

The crucial modifications by the Mercedes F1 engineers involved integrating advanced lithium batteries into his wheelchair and removing a substantial 70kg of weight. These enhancements allowed him to travel an impressive 60 miles or more on a single charge, a critical factor in maintaining his record-setting pace across the challenging terrain.

Adam Stanton-Wharmby’s world record stands as an inspiring testament to human resilience, the power of collaboration, and how cutting-edge technology can enable extraordinary achievements.
