Britain Kayak Record Attempt Turns Gritty as Adventurer Faces Gunfire and Monster Waves

Kayaker Mike Lambert, 32, is pushing the limits of endurance and human resilience as he attempts to set a world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Britain by kayak — a grueling 1,881-mile (3,028km) voyage that has already tested him in unimaginable ways.

Launching from East Wittering on 1 June, the Surrey-based physiotherapist has since encountered treacherous waves, painful injuries, and even gunfire during his ambitious challenge. Despite these dangers, Lambert remains determined to paddle through to the finish line.

“Some days have been so brutal I wouldn’t dream of repeating them,” he admitted. “But I’m learning things about myself that I could only have discovered on this journey. It’s been very painful, but very beautiful.”

The record-breaking attempt isn’t just about speed — it’s a testament to physical grit, mental endurance, and self-discovery. Lambert’s story has begun to capture public attention, with many following his journey as he hugs the dramatic coastline of Britain in pursuit of history.

Though battered by nature and unexpected hazards, Lambert is refusing to give up — and his spirit continues to inspire adventurers and dreamers alike.
