The Ormeau Table Tennis Club in Belfast is hoping to reclaim its place in the record books after staging a thrilling attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive shots in a continuous rally by different people.
The club originally held the title in 2017 with 113 participants, but lost it in 2020 to a Brighton-based club that achieved 118 shots. Determined to win it back, Ormeau rallied the community and hosted a special event on Thursday, drawing over 130 participants.
Each person took one shot before stepping aside, seamlessly replaced by the next in line, all while a designated player on the opposite side kept the rally going.
“We’ve worked hard to coordinate this—it’s not just about skill, but teamwork and timing,” said club spokesperson Gervis Knox. “We’re confident we’ve smashed the record.”
Video footage and data from the event have been submitted to Guinness World Records for official verification. If confirmed, Ormeau will once again hold the prestigious title, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse in community table tennis.
