In a remarkable effort to promote environmental conservation and spiritual heritage, the District Magistrate of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, in association with the LOK DAYITVA Team, organized a record-breaking tree plantation drive under the leadership of Shri Vishal Bhardwaj (IAS), District Magistrate Azamgarh.
The initiative, themed “SAVE ENVIRONMENT TO PLANT SPIRITUAL TREES,” saw the participation of over 25,000 people from across the district. On 22nd June 2023, volunteers planted a total of 55,555 spiritual trees—species distinctly mentioned in the Ramayana—along a 40-kilometer stretch on both sides of the Chhoti Saryu River Bank.
The world record-setting event was conducted simultaneously in more than 50 villages, showcasing Azamgarh’s commitment to ecological restoration and cultural preservation. The event not only set a new world record but also aimed to inspire people to connect with their cultural roots and contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment.
This historic achievement reinforces Azamgarh’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sets an example for communities across the country to combine tradition with modern sustainability efforts.
