Anshula Kant Becomes First Woman MD and CFO of World Bank Group

Making history on the global financial stage, Anshula Kant, a seasoned Indian banker, was appointed as the first woman to hold the dual role of Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the World Bank Group.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the global push for gender representation in top leadership roles within international financial institutions.

Before joining the World Bank, Kant served as the Managing Director of the State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector bank, where she led international strategy and managed assets worth trillions of rupees. Her strong track record in financial stewardship and inclusive banking made her a natural choice for the prestigious role.

“Anshula brings more than 35 years of deep experience in banking, finance, and risk management,” said David Malpass, then President of the World Bank Group. “Her leadership will be critical to the Bank’s mission to end poverty and boost shared prosperity.”
